Job Description

The Law Clerk position is a great opportunity for recent law school graduates seeking to gain practical, hands-on experience applying your knowledge to assist with high profile cases being investigated and litigated by the Department of Justice. This opportunity will also enhance your knowledge and understanding of the litigation life cycle as you assist with investigations from discovery through trial and appeal. Responsibilities include working under the direction of a Supervisory Paralegal or a Project Supervisor, performing complex legal research for the trial staff, assisting in preparing draft legal documents such as motions, briefs, memoranda of law, reviewing documents for relevance and privilege, and assisting attorneys with all phases of litigation. Additional duties include assisting with case organization and maintenance, preparing the team for witness interviews, discovery and trials, providing in-courtroom assistance, exhibit collection and review, and legal research as needed based on trial demands. The role also involves utilizing eDiscovery platforms to perform document review, communicating detailed summaries and analyses of findings, cultivating and maintaining positive relationships with DOJ components, Federal agencies, counsel and others as needed, researching and compiling data from various reference sources, preparing substantive indices upon request, summarizing articles, reports, witness statements, and managing multiple cases simultaneously with minimal supervision. Qualifications required include a law degree or current attendance at an ABA-accredited law school with at least one year completed, sound working knowledge of federal and state court systems, legal research procedures and resources, excellent written and oral communication skills, proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, familiarity with various computer applications including word processing, databases, spreadsheets, and imaging, familiarity with ESI tools and e-discovery procedures, ability to deliver high-quality work under pressure, flexibility to work overtime on short notice, and DOJ MBI must be obtainable (US Citizenship required). Desired qualifications include leadership experience, ability to perform quality control analysis, ability to work in a deadline-driven environment, excellent attention to detail, customer-focused and professional attitude, eDiscovery experience, and proficiency with Relativity eDiscovery software.
