The Firefighter-EMT position requires work which includes responding to and dealing with emergency situations and natural conditions that pose a threat to life and property.
Firefighter-EMTs perform duties in the following areas: firefighting of all types including but not limited to structural, vehicle and marine; general rescue, light and heavy extrication; emergency medical technician duties and activities; hazmat response and mitigation, maintenance, inspections, testing, and minor repairs of fire and EMS apparatus, equipment, and fire facilities; fire prevention programs such as code enforcement, public education, public relations and fire investigations; training activities and skills maintenance; and maintenance of quarters in accordance with Department policies and procedures.
Firefighter-EMTs work under the direction of a commanding officer.

Entry-Level candidates must complete the Fire TEAM Exam with National Testing Network (NTN).
All Entry-Level and some Lateral candidates will be required to attend the WA State FTA. Oral Board interviews will be held in-person on June 4, 2025.
Completed Application Packets must be submitted in a sealed envelope via mail, or in-person to Burlington City Hall, ATTN: Human Resources by no later than 5:00 p.m. PST on 5/23/2025. Only applicants meeting the minimum job qualifications will be considered.
Qualifications
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Must be 21 years of age by the application closing date.
• Must be a United States citizen.
• Must be able to read, write and speak English.
• Good physical condition and ability to obtain a passing score on physical agility test.
• Passing score on respirator medical questionnaire and medical evaluation. • Pass a physical examination including a pre-employment drug screen.
• Submit to a background investigation prior to being hired
. • No felony convictions or disqualifying criminal history as defined in City Policy.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
• Must obtain a State of Washington driver’s license within 6 months of hire date.
• Lateral candidates must hold a current IFSAC or equivalent Firefighter I (Firefighter II preferred) certificate.
• All applicants must hold a current National Registry or Washington State EMT-B certificate
• Subject to 12 month probationary period.
• Spanish language skills preferred.
